In medical practice since 1991, Dr. Young has focused his medical specialization on pain management, musculoskeletal medicine and neurological rehabilitation. Named by Baltimore magazine as a "Top Doctor", Dr. Young's dedication and caring is recognized and appreciated by his patients' and their families.
In his role as a medical acupuncturist, physician and international lecturer, Dr. Mark A. Young has shared his vast knowledge of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, Neurologic Rehabilitation, Pain Management, PM&R Education and International Exchange with lay and scientific audiences all around the world. Dr. Young serves as chair of the ISPRM Faculty-Student Exchange Committee, an organization responsible for placing rehabilitation professionals in educational and humanitarian rotational opportunities worldwide.
Dr. Young has edited several scholarly volumes including: Conservative Management of Spine Pain and Spinal Rehabilitation (Hanley & Belfus Publishers) and PM&R Secrets (Elsevier Publishers) 1st edition, 2nd edition, and 3d edition. His lectures on "Pain and the Musculoskeletal System: A Tale of Two Genders", based on his book bestselling book "Women and Pain" (Hyperion 2002) (www.womenandpain.com) have earned acclaim from scientific as well as lay audiences alike. Dr. Young's extensive academic and humanitarian service background has successfully enabled him to serve his patient's with state of the art, superb and compassionate care.
Dr. Young has been invited to serve as keynote speaker on Acupuncture, Pain Management, Rehabilitation, Neurology, International Exchange programs and medical topics in many venues including the Women's Health Congress in Hilton Head, The Illinois State Annual Women's Health Conference , The International Association for the Study of Pain in Sydney, Australia (IASP) and the International Society of PR&M (Prague, Brazil, Israel Portugal and Korea). Dr. Young has authored over 70 medical publications including articles, abstracts and reviews that have appeared in a diverse and prestigious array of journals including JAMA, The New York Times, New England Journal of Medicine and the Annals of Internal Medicine.
An academic physician and a humanitarian educator (www.isprm-edu.org), Dr. Young earned his Medical Degree from the Rosalind Franklin University-Chicago Medical School, and later served a residency at the Albert Einstein School of Medicine. Dr. Young was recruited to the faculty of Johns Hopkins School of Medicine in 1991. Dr. Young earned his medical acupuncture certification from the University of Southern California-LA (UCLA) physician acupuncture training program He later went on to earn an MBA from the Johns Hopkins University.
Since 1991, he has participated in a total of 89 international meetings as a faculty and scientific contributor and facilitator. Dr. Young specializes in musculoskeletal medicine, rehabilitation, pain and women's health issues and has been invited by multiple governments and organizations to deliver lectures. Dr. Young has participated in many meaningful humanitarian projects relating to pain and rehabilitation, including "Operation Functional Recovery: which mobilized the rehabilitation medicine community to benefit Hurricane Katrina Survivors, (www.isprm-edu.org/human) as well as the Sichuan and Haiti earthquake.
Dr. Young holds a faculty appointment at the Johns Hopkins University Medical School, The University of Maryland, The New York University and is a Clinical Professor in the Department of Orthopedic Sciences within the NY College of Podiatric medicine. He is a Diplomat of the American Board of PM&R, Fellow of the American College of Pain Management, Fellow of the American College of Physicians and a member of The Johns Hopkins Physicians and Surgeons Association.
